The Close of the Decennium

The year is in moonlight as we finally close the blinds and lock up shop on this decade. Ten years have passed, that were never short of interesting, even without modest embellishment. We will look back on these days soon. Some years will be remembered with favor others with a wince. We may find ourselves slightly awestruck at the amount of  bitter peaks and the somber valleys.

More live better than before, but at what cost? Fortunes were forged, a few were earned, and the world economy caught the flu. Race was redefined, war was waged and the computer made its way into the family portrait, whether you liked it or not.

Everything, and everyone, went online. Reading, shopping, dating, shouts, murmurs and screams. The most popular surname became dot com. Born and bred were Facebook, Amazon, Google and a little thing called Twitter. The Internet’s teenage years were important and rather tumultuous times, but a new course was set.

How the world will interact and communicate has been changed forever. Web 2.0 gave way to 3.0. Choices are everywhere, opportunity is inherently more diverse and abundant. Information now finds you and follows you to sleep. All the while most things are getting more expensive, and we have to practically get naked in front of strangers to get onto an airplane.

Still it seems the best of things is still yet to come. Everywhere there is more music and more art. More healthy children are born, borders are crossed, disease is cured. Some soldiers come home, treaties are signed, apologies are made, people are forgiven.

Invariably a new year approaches and we reflect upon those things we hope are different for us as another four seasons approach. Some call them “new years resolutions,” others hopes and dreams. A few call it reality.

That’s where the 99% who “wish and hope” are separated from the 1 % who realize.

Let’s take look at just one of the common resolution millions have just made for 2010: Weight Loss.

“Honey, I’m going to lose 20 pounds this year.”

“Not only am I going to join the Y, I’m going to start playing volleyball again”

“No more of this…that.”

Sound familiar?

Here’s the next part:

“Well I don’t have gym clothes really…so I need to do that first.”
“Gosh, work is just crazy right now…I seriously don’t have time to sleep let alone run 3 miles”

“Well, I was just going to start on the 15th since I’m travelling next week…and then there is Sarah’s birthday and the long weekend…yada yada yada.”

Also sound familiar?

There is only a single difference between those who live their goals, and those that only set their goals. Action. All of the desires, ambitions, fortunes, happiness and joy that we experience are the result of 1% ideas and 99% decisive action, the premise for my coming book 99%.

Bear in mind that whatever you may decide is next for you-will only be a result of the steps you take. It will be a result of the persistence you show, and the discipline you can apply towards your personal commitment to simply do it.

As we we enter this first full week of the new decade I wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

My best,

jay_signature v.1

I look forward to your book Jay. That’s a great point and it’s so sad that it’s true. Too many people set goals and never even begin to try to accomplish them.

  2. Steve Cosner says:

    Jay,

    Thankyou for your great letters.

Thankyou for your support and forward thinking.

Thankyou for making a difference in my life in 2009 and now 2010…

  3. Nayer Nan says:

Thanks for the wise advice. I couldn’t have put it any better. I will pass this to all my friends.

I wish you also a prosperous, healthy and happy decade ::)) full of beautiful and fun surprises.

all the best. I look forward to your book.
    Nan

  4. First of all, I want to thank you for everything you’ve done to help me personally, as well as many other entrepreneurs, in the previous decade and in advance for all that you have planned for us as a community moving forward into this new decade.

John Jackson mentioned this morning that the word ‘resolution’ is inadequate for describing our goals for this new year. A more appropriate word would be ‘revolution.’

A renewed vision, renewed commitment, new goals, new challenges, new victories and changed lives.

I’ll take that over ‘resolution’ any day.

  5. Hi Jay

Love this latter, I’m really happy to be part of 1%.

Thanks for such a Great Thing that gave me again new path in life

    Regards,
    Devendra

  6. Thank you Jay for your infinite words of wisdom. I always enjoy reading your letters. I get so much inspiration from them. I consider myself to be in the 1% who realize and take action! I’m look forward to very prosperous 2010. Again, thank you for the inspiration you give to all of us who are fortunate enough to be members of Carbon Copy Pro and thank you for all you do to make this possible.
    To our success,
    Charlotte

  7. Jay,

Thank you for this thoughtful post.

Your insight and reflection are both welcomed and valued.

As noted, so much has happened in the past ten years…So many technological advancements and so many changes in societies around the World.

If there is one thing I hope comes in this new decade, it’s the amount of focus we can collectively put on the health of our planet. Regardless of where we find ourselves economically, there are so many ways to start helping ecologically and environmentally.

Thank you Jay, for your vision and leadership.

The day I came across Carbon Copy Pro was the day my future looked brighter. CCPro does nothing for me without my ACTION. Simply by implementing the tools and training the system provides, I’ve begun changing my life in ways I wasn’t aware of just 6 months ago.

Awareness of ones position is a start. Taking ACTION to make positive change is the Solution. This concept holds true with all things in life, including environmental change.

Let’s all make it a point this decade to live a more sustainable lifestyle. It’s simple:

    1.Treat all people faily
2.Operate in an environmentally responsible manner.
3.Achieve an acceptable return on investment and a healthy bottom line.

    Thanks again,

    Your friend and colleague,

  8. Steve Dison says:

Hey Jay, as usual a great article. I really appreciate all that you do. I am committed this year to follow you and ccpro and not go on the bunny trails that i have gone on in the past. I will take action and I will get to know you. As Wayne Allen Root “WAR” would say, I am relentless.

  9. Happy New Year and New Decennium to you and yours Jay and thank you for another excellent letter – this time with a special note – your coming book 99%. Can’t wait to read and share it, for I am sure that anyone reading and living it will be tremendously empowered to become one-percenter as yourself. Taking pre-orders yet?

  10. Oh ya,that’s right,99% or more of people over this large world are wasting (their time or life) for doing nothing or doing something worst than nothing. They have no time to think about the futur or have enough time to think about everything but the future. They aren’t able to make decision about their futur or have no choice for their furur. Money, Authority, domination and self love are the four tire of this life vehecule. Young or old, are using facebook to skip face to face communication or because they aren’t able to face. They are looking for fiends over the world because they don’t feel real security with people surrounding them or because their felings of love and security are dammaged within their local society. Time is wasted and everybody feel in a hurry. Everybody doesn’t like to die but is rushing tward his tomb. Internet make everything faster, we like it because it let us forget about everything even time. That’men’s life. It’s too short and it seems too long.

  11. Andrew Peel says:

Totally agree the difference between ‘decode’ and ‘do’ is massive

  13. Daryl Spears says:

    Bravo Jay!

Very well said. If one wants change then they have to change. I know because change is not always easy, but change for the better is worth the struggle and effort. I am going through change personally. I’m a work in progress! It’s a good thing though! I will not give up on educating and improving myself and help others do the same.

Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

    Daryl

  14. I am just so excited – I joined CCPro a couple of months ago, made a commitment to myself that I was going to succeed in this business. Have been following the training, listening to the webinars and video calls (burned a lot of them to CDs so I can listen to them in the car on the way to work). My computer is broken, so I’ve been working from loaned ones, which has been a bit tricky, but yesterday put out a press release to a few sites….. today, I’ve landed on the first page of Google for CCPro. I know I have to reach buyers, not browsers, but I really feel I’m getting somewhere. As I said in my press release, I am really passionate about this business, and just know I am going to succeed!

Thank you for the fantastic training and backup you give. I am determined that I’ll be at the next M2/M3 conference – I live in Australia, so am doubly looking forward to it, seeing new places and meeting new friends.

    Cheers
    Jan

  17. Jay,

You hit the nail right on the head. Talking about your goals and actually taking action are two different things which get two different results. That being said I am writing my 2010 goals today.

Thank you for all that you do, the mentoring, the sharing, the training…I am looking forward to reading your book!

Here’s to a healthy, happy and prosperous 2010.

  18. Nahid Vassef says:

  19. Dominic Javier says:

    Jay,

Thank you for your message – a reflective thought on the 1% who lives in reality. A decade swiftly passed and happy for a few savoring favorable moments and for most, opting to forget the awesome years. Adding though, opportunities are built when decissions are made right realizing technological and the big-broad environment changes.

Awaiting for your book in the Philippines and hopefully improves the critical 1% who lives in reality.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Dominic Javier
